What does a typical route bus driver day look like?
This depends on the district you drive for, however, most runs start around 6:30am, we get to our buses early to get them warmed up and ensure everything is operating. Most runs are done by 8:30am, then, the middle of the day is yours!
Drivers then return to their buses around 1:30pm and end their day around 4:15pm.

Requirements to be a bus driver
-
Valid Driver’s License
-
Minimum age 18 years old
-
Class B CDL, Passenger and School Bus Endorsement, No air brake restriction
-
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and fingerprint check
-
Meet school bus driver physical requirements
-
GED/High School Diploma at a minimum

Training

A minimum fourteen (14) hours of classroom training

A minimum of six (6) hours one-on-one vehicle familiarity and driving instruction (in-bus training) this training prepares the trainee to take the Pennsylvania CDL, Air Brake, and School Bus exam
